20 Years 20 Cities
In the year it celebrates 20 years, the Portuguese Competition Authority (AdC) has launched a program to disseminate the benefits of competition and the risks of non-compliance, in order to bring the AdC's activity closer to the Portuguese citizens and, in particular, to the entrepreneurs in the Districts and Autonomous Regions.
Entitled 20 Years 20 Cities, the program will take elucidation sessions to all district capitals and to the two Autonomous Regions, in a monthly session, for almost two years.
"We want to make competition pedagogy and we want to hear what the main stakeholders have to tell us", said the President of the AdC, Nuno Cunha Rodrigues, regarding the initiative.
Consumers, taxpayers, workers, entrepreneurs, public contractors, all are beneficiaries of a competitive environment, where multiplicity of choice is assured and companies compete on the basis of merit. However, they need to know how these benefits are translated and how they can help the AdC to enforce and competition law.
"We are witnessing a strong entrepreneurial dynamic in all regions of the country and a displacement of businesses, especially startups, to geographical areas farther away from the capital. We want to reach this public," said Nuno Cunha Rodrigues, for whom bringing the AdC closer to the beneficiaries of competition "is productive for both parties”.
The launch of the campaign will take place on May 25th in Santarém, the city that has hosted the Competition, Regulation and Supervision Court (TCRS) since its creation.
The AdC is counting on the support of the 20 municipalities and, through them, the regional and district business associations and all those interested in the public good that is competition.
